Massive May Day rally taken out

JAMMU, Apr 30: A massive May Day rally was taken out in the winter capital city by All J&K Low Paid Government Employees Federation to recall the sacrifices of the trade unionists of Chicago in USA.
Veteran trade union leader, Abdul Majid Khan was leading the protest while hundreds of members of the Federation from various districts including Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Udhampur, Kathua, Doda etc participated in the protest march. A large number of low paid workers assembled under the banner of All J&K Low Paid Government Employees Federation at Parade Ground here on the eve of May Day and took out protest march towards old Jammu city.
The employees rally led by Abdul Majid Khan (State president), Isher Dass Sangra unit president, Krishan Singh and R K Maini, passed through various markets in the city and then culminated at Shahidi Chowk. The employees were carrying banners and placards depicting demands of the employees. They were raising slogans in support of their demands.
While addressing large gathering Abdul Majid Khan paid rich tributes to May Day martyrs, who made supreme sacrifices and succeeded in managing weekly off and 8 hour work for the working classes. He cautioned the members of the working class to remain aware and vigilant from the exploitation by the members of the ruling class working against the interests of the workers.
Mr Khan said that in view of price escalation of essential commodities and other items, the working class especially the low paid workers are being affected badly. They are really being crushed under the burden of price hike. He demanded release of 8% DA installment from January 2013 in cash on the pattern of Central Government, constitution of Pay Commission for review and revision of pay pension and perks afresh, merger of 50% DA in basic pay/ pension, lowering of qualifying service for pension to 20 years, payment of CPD arrears in one go, revision of minimum daily wage to Rs 250 and remuneration of village guards at par with minimum daily wage in vogue, enhancement of medical allowance to Rs 1000, regularization of daily wagers, adhoc, contractual and consolidated workers, removal of pay anomalies of junior assistants, senior and head assistants etc.
The speakers including Kabla Singh, Mr Sanga and Krishan Singh during rally extended support to agitating Patwaris and asked the Government to settle their issues as the general public was suffering. They also projected other burning issues of the employees.
