Martyrs’ families, relatives protest, submit memorandum to Governor

SAMBA, Oct 7: Relatives and family members of the martyrs from Samba district who laid down their lives in insurgency operations in different parts of the country today staged a demonstration in front of SDM Office at Vijaypur protesting against the miserable condition of these families due to the negligent attitude of the State Government towards them.
The protest was led by Senior Congress leader and former Minister, Manjit Singh who on the behalf of these martyrs submitted a memorandum to the Governor of the State through Divisional Commissioner Jammu seeking justice for these families.
The memorandum said that recently in Uri attack Hav Ravi Pal of village Sarva of Samba district and Subedar Karnail Singh of Chibbu Chak district Jammu attained martyrdom and till date the families of these martyrs were not paid the ex-gratia relief by the State Government and other benefits to their next kin were also not given.
He said prior to it, Naib Subedar Ram Singh S/o Babu Ram of Swankha Morh of Vijaypur tehsil of district Samba also attained martyrdom while fighting terrorism in Manipur and Mool Raj of Jakh, Vijaypur of district Samba serving in DSC had also sacrificed his life while fighting terrorists in Pathankot Air Base.
Besides Ajeet Raj of W No. 3 Vijaypur laid down his life in terrorist attack at Dayalachak, Kathua but the State Government has not paid any ex-gratia to these martyrs while other states have announced good amount as ex-gratia for them who also lost their lives while fighting terrorism along with the soldiers belonging to J&K.
The memorandum wanted to know why such a huge discrimination and why the State Government has no respect for the valour and bravery of the solders from J&K serving in Army and para military forces.
Seeking intervention of Governor, the memorandum demanded adequate compensation to the families of these martyrs and extension of benefits of SRO 43 to them.
