Many vital projects of health, power sectors ready for commissioning

*Portal for registration of new vehicles being launched

JAMMU, July 7: Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is going to dedicate to the public several important projects of health and power development sectors as the same are ready for commissioning during the next some days. Moreover, portal for registration of new vehicles is ready for formal launch anytime as part of the ongoing drive to provide online services.
Official sources told EXCELSIOR that during the recent high level meeting the Administrative Secretaries of different departments have conveyed to the Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta that several important projects have been completed and are ready for inauguration any time.
The Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department has informed that 100 bedded new Emergency Block of Government Medical College Jammu, Ayurvedic College-cum-Hospital at Akhnoor and Unani Medical College at Ganderbal have been completed and are ready for commissioning.
The construction of 100 bedded new Emergency Block at GMC Jammu, which was approved under Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) was started in the month of January 2019 by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Housing Corporation.
The block constructed at a cost of Rs 1150.50 lakh will largely help the Government Medical College and Hospital to meet extra work load on the emergency wing as it has been designed as per IHPS guidelines and parameters which are of international standard.
The Ayurvedic College-cum-Hospital at Akhnoor has been constructed by spending an amount of Rs 25.80 crore under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme while as Unani Medical College Ganderbal has been constructed at a cost of Rs 32.50 crore. Both these projects faced many hurdles but the present administration got the work expedited and now public will reap the benefits.
Besides inaugurating these projects of health sector, foundation stone of 50 bedded Ayush Hospital at Samba will also be laid by the Government in the next few days, sources informed.
They further said that Principal Secretary, Power Development Department has conveyed to the Chief Secretary that major projects worth Rs 250 crore have been completed and are ready for inauguration at any time. Moreover, it was disclosed to the Chief Secretary that 11000 employees of the department have been provided insurance under Prime Minister Accidental Insurance and PM Health Insurance.
“The commissioning of these projects would go a long way in minimizing the difficulties of the people on account of power supply”, sources said.
The Transport Department has developed a portal to facilitate registration of new vehicles at dealers point and the same will also be launched by the Government shortly.
Observing that such initiatives bring in transparency in governance, the Chief Secretary has told other Administrative Secretaries for replicating the same in their respective departments so that as many as possible services are provided to the people online.
The Secretary of the Higher Education Department has informed the Chief Secretary that 100 colleges in Jammu and Kashmir will apply for accreditation by August 2021.
“Majority of these projects are likely to be inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Kumar Sinha, who has also started reviewing the working of all the departments”, sources said.
They further informed that Chief Secretary has directed the Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department to expedite the pace of work on hostel at Bemina and Polytechnic College at Jammu so as to facilitate their inauguration before August 15, 2021.
