JAMMU, July 7: In first major infiltration attempt on the Line of Control (LoC) since fresh ceasefire agreement came into force in February this year in Jammu, the Indian Army gunned down one infiltrator in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in the early hours of this morning while two Army soldiers sustained minor injuries.
Sources said a group of Pakistani militants made an attempt to infiltrate into the Indian territory from the Line of Control in forward village Arsalgala in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in early hours of this moaning.
“Alert Army troops thwarted the infiltration bid by suitably employing an Integrated Surveillance Grid along with domination by fire and engaging the militants in a fierce firefighting in which one militants was killed,” they said.
Body of the militant was recovered during subsequent searches undertaken by the troops at the site of encounter.
Searches also led to recovery of one AK-47 rifle, four magazines with ammunition and two hand grenades.
“This action by alert troops displayed resolve of Indian Army to thwart any misadventure on the Line of Control,” a Defence spokes-man said.
Reports said two Army soldiers sustained minor injuries in the encounter.
There were reports that one or two more militants trying to infiltrate into the Indian territory retreated to Pakistan finding the troops alert on the LoC. However, there was no official confirmation of this.
This was the first infiltration attempt on the Line of Control in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch after Indo-Pak troops reached fresh ceasefire agreement on LoC and International Border in February this year.
