KATHMANDU, May 19 : Manoj Kumar Sharma was on Tuesday sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Nepal Supreme Court.
His name was unanimously endorsed by the Parliamentary hearing committee and forwarded to President Ramchandra Paudel on Tuesday.
Paudel then appointed Sharma as the chief justice of the Himalayan nation’s apex court.
Sharma was recommended for the position by the Constitutional Council headed by Prime Minister Balendra Shah on May 7.
The position of the chief justice had remained vacant since the retirement of Prakash Man Singh Raut in April.
Senior Justice Sapana Pradhan was steering the judiciary in the capacity of acting Chief Justice for the time being.
President Paudel, in a special ceremony held at the President’s Office, administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly appointed Chief Justice Sharma. (PTI)
