BILLAWAR, July 29: Former minister Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today conducted extensive tour of rain affected areas of Billawar constituency including Fish Farm Mandli, Dhar Road Bheeni Bridge, Beril village and Bridge Site Lodnu to take stock of the damages caused by floods.
He interacted with cross-section of people and found damages and loss of property to the households, shopkeepers and other inhabitants of constituency where the properties of the people like TVs, beds, utensils, ration were damaged in addition to damage of their houses.
Manohar Lal assured the gathering that he will take up the matter of damages with the concerned authorities and also demanded compensation for damages and free ration at least for 6 months to the sufferers and the farmers whose crops were damaged due to late rain. He stressed upon the J&K administration to come to the rescue of rain or flash flood affected families across the UT and provide them all help including monetary compensation, living shelters and food items.
Former minister urged the Lieutenant Governor of J&K that instant financial help, relief and rehabilitation should be dispensed for those who have lost their dear ones, houses and cattle sheds and Agricultural land along with paddy crops in the recent flash floods in union territory of J&K. He also demanded that after complete assessment of damaged crops and agriculture land, compensation be provided to affected farmers.
“Farmers have suffered a huge loss due to water-logging in their fields following heavy rains. Moreover, seeds sown in the fields and fertile soil have been washed away. This could have been avoided if the government had made adequate arrangements in advance to stop the water from entering fields by diverting it,” Dr Manohar said.
