Mankotia organises marathon against drug abuse

UDHAMPUR, May 19: Concerned over the increasing drug abuse, former MLA and NPP president Balwant Singh Mankotia organised a marathon against drug menace, here today.
The marathon which was fourth in series, commenced from Modi Ground around 6:30 am and culminated at Dogra Guest House Rathian. About 300 youth participated in the marathon, which was organised in association with NGO Dogra Kranti Dal.
Mankotia, while addressing youth, expressed his anxiety over the spread of “Chitta” (Heroin) drug at such a fast rate during the past three years due to which many of the youth have lost their lives in the previous days.
Mankotia alleged that it was the conspiracy of neighbouring country to devastate our youth by making them drug addict. He appealed all the political and non political parties to come along to make the city drug free.
Mankotia demanded strict action against drug peddlers. He said that such type of awareness by organising such activities should be done periodically which is the only route for drawing youth away from drugs. “Only motive behind to organise such activities is to channelise the energy of our youngsters into positive direction, “he added.
Mankotia informed that during the previous days, he had conducted door to door awareness campaign against drugs and also organized huge rallies to eradicate such a menace and to take stern action against drug peddlers. While showing his concern over the drug abuse, reiterated that eradication of drug abuse was his prime goal.
Later, Mankotia also felicitated first three winners with cash prize. First ranking Sachin was awarded with Rs 5100, second ranking Akshay Sharma with Rs 3100 and third ranking Om Veer with Rs 2100.
