UDHAMPUR, Sept 20: State president, J&K National Panthers Party (NPP) and MLA, Balwant Singh Mankotia, inaugurated Sankari Devta Mela at Meer Panchari, here today.
He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of Sankari Devta Mandir at Meer.
Thousands of people from different parts of Panchari and Udhampur blocks participated in the Mela.
Addressing the gathering at Mela, Mankotia lambasted State Government to deliberately ignore the people of Lander, Panchari and Bamag areas. He said that the biggest injustice with these people is that they have been divided in three parts i.e, one block has been divided into three Assembly Constituencies, adding the main demand of the people of this block is that there should be separate Assembly Constituency for this area.
Noting that due to non-availability of a degree college, hundreds of students every year remain deprived of higher education, as they have to cover about 100 kilometre distance to reach college, he demanded a degree college to resolve the issue.
The NPP MLA said that Panthers Party shall take up both the above said issues in upcoming Assembly elections, besides, the issue of tehsil status for the said block.
Mankotia also condemned the attitude of district administration for interfering in the religious matters. He demanded for revocation of Deputy Commissioner’s order in which he has constituted a Government committee to take over Sankari temple.
He warned that if Deputy Commissioner doesn’t dissolve the Committee then strong agitation will be launched against the district administration.
