SAMBA, Feb 4: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today appealed Congress Ministers to join hands to force the Government to sanction the one time settlement of refugees/displaced persons.
Addressing the meetings of the border people in Nandpur and Ramgarh he said that the matter has already been delayed.
The Congress leader said that the people who had left their respective residences due to war and migrated to other places are still living under deplorable conditions and even they have no right on the property they are holding.
He demanded that the Government should give benefits to the refugees/displaced persons like on the same pattern as have been given to Kashmiri Pandits and stressed that a proposal of package be sent to GoI so that the settlement of the refugees/displaced persons could be done once for all.
He further said that the people should be given compensation for the land ahead of fence since they were not allowed to tilt it. Besides he demanded reservation to the border people. (retd) Baljeet Singh, Jalandar Ram and Bahaudur Chand among others.
