JAMMU, May 11: Apni Party Jammu provincial president Manjit Singh has urged National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to review its decision of uprooting and displacement of people from their houses and decades old business establishments in Samba district.
“It is unfortunate that the National Highway Authority has put in signs for establishing Toll Plaza at Thandi Khuie in Vijaypur, Samba by shifting it from Patli Morh,” said Manjit Singh in his anguish over the ill planned Express Way and establishing Toll Plaza at Thandi Khuie which has snatched sleep of locals.
Singh said Thandi Khuie has become a tourist spot where tourists stop and take tea, sweets and other eatables. It is famous for decades old sweets. However, there is anger among the businessmen who are going to lose their well established business,” said Manjit Singh and demanded an immediate review of the decision to establish a Toll Plaza there.
He said that the Government of India must intervene within time so that the businessmen can be saved. “The Displaced Persons who had to abandon their homes due to wars should not be displaced again from Thandi Khuie, and Sapwal areas of Samba district and their right to do business and live peacefully should be honoured,” he added.
The former Minister said that Thandi Khuie also has a historic importance as tourists and visitors would stay here for tea and food since it was established before 1947 on Grand Trunk Road and hence, it should be protected and preserved by the Government of India.
“The places of historic importance should not be damaged. Therefore, the decision to include it as a part of new Toll Plaza should be reviewed,” he added. He said thousands of families will displace and many will lose their source of income.
