SAMBA, Feb 4: Former Minister and Apni Party provincial president, Manjit Singh today visited border villages in Vijaypur in Samba district and interacted with the farmers who are facing problems because of the washing away of culvert.
In a bid to take stock of the problems being faced by the farmers in the border belt, Manjit Singh, visited Sheikhupura Plota village and Babral village.
During his visit, Manjit Singh interacted with the farmers who complained that they have lost access to their fields after the washing away of the culvert across the ditch between Shekhupura Plota and Babral village.
“The villagers of Sheikhupura Plota have their fields on the other side of ditch i.e. Babral village and to reach this village, they used to cross through a culvert which now has been washed away,” said Manjit Singh.
In absence of the culvert, he said, the farmers especially women have to cover five to six km on foot to get fodder from their fields. He appealed to the administration to re-construct the culvert on the ditch for the facility of the border belt farmers. “These farmers have been suffering due to the damage to the culvert and it should be reconstructed by the Department concerned,” he said.
He said that the border belt farmers have many issues and the administration should resolve their issues.
Manjit Singh expressed anguish over the non-responsive approach of the authorities.
