Maneka demands stern action against man for tying pet dog

KOCHI, Dec 12: Sultanpur Lok Sabha Member Maneka Gandhi on Saturday demanded stern action against a man, who has been booked under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act for allegedly tying a dog to his car and dragging down the road for several metres at Chengamanadu Police station limit in Ernakulam district.
Ms Gandhi, also animal rights activist, who contacted the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Rural Superintendent of Police of Aluva, demanded stern action against 62-year-old Yoosuf in this regard.
The cruel incident came to light after a video in this regard was widely circulated on social media.
A biker, identified as Akhil, who protested the cruelty and shot the video while coming back from a hospital on Friday morning.
Following the incident, Yoosuf was arrested from the locality. Later, the injured dog was spotted and now it is under the custody of a voluntary organisation.
Yoosuf told the police that he was trying to abandon his dog which was creating nuisance around his house.
After coming to know about the incident, State Transport Minister AK Saseendran directed the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) to impound the vehicle. (PTI)
