JAMMU, Apr 26: Police today claimed to have arrested a man with a heroin-like substance during naka checking at Janipur area and booked him under the NDPS Act.
Officials said a naka was laid by a team from Police Station Janipur led by the SHO concerned, Inspector Vikram Sharma, when a man coming from Jaggi Darbar side tried to flee after noticing the police party.
They said the police chased and apprehended him on the spot. He was identified as Akash of Bhalwal Bharath, Pargwal, Akhnoor.
During his persons search, police recovered approximately 5 to 8 grams of heroin-like substance concealed in the right pocket of his trouser and wrapped in a white polythene bag.
Two mobile phones of Itel and Vivo brands were also seized from his possession, they said.
They said the accused individual has been accordingly booked in case FIR number 54/2026 under sections 8, 21, and 22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Janipur and further investigation taken up.
