Man held with 100 kgs poppy straw

SRINAGAR, Feb 6: Police today said it have arrested a man and recovered over 100 kilograms poppy straw on his instance in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
A police spokesman said during Naka checking at Yarisutru in Khansahib area of the district, police apprehended a man carrying a gunny bag.
“On its checking, police recovered 10 Kilograms of poppy straw. The arrested man was identified as Ghulam Hussain Bhat,” he said, adding: a case under FIR number 9/2016 under Section 08/18 NDPS Act was registered and further investigation was taken up.”
During the investigation, the spokesman said, the accused revealed that he has dumped a huge quantity of Poppy Straw at his home. “Accordingly SDPO Khansahib, Naib Tehsildar Khansahib, DySP (operations) Budgam and SHO Police station Khansahib rushed to the house and recovered poppy straw packed in bags weighting 100 Kilograms. Further investigation in this regard is going on,” he added.
