JAMMU, July 28: Continuing their drive against smuggling of liquor and drugs in the holy town Katra, police achieved a major success by apprehending a bootlegger along with large quantity of illicit liquor.
According to SP Katra Kulbir Singh, a police team from Katra police station laid a naka near Balni and intercepted a Maruti car bearing registration number JK02U-3019.
During checking, police recovered 252 pouches of illicit liquor and arrested the bootlegger, who has been identified as Rakesh Kumar, son of Madan Lal of Dassanu, district Reasi, he added.
SP further stated that the illicit liquor consignment was to be delivered in holy town Katra for distribution among the masses by the accused, but before that the police nabbed him.
A case under FIR number 178/14 under Section 48-A Excise Act has been registered against the accused at police station Katra and investigation started.
