JAMMU, May 21: The dead body of a man was found today from a water pit near a brick kiln in Mishriwala area of city outskirts.
According to a police spokesman, the deceased was identified as Kulvinder Singh (35) son of Trilochan Singh, resident of Pakhiyan (Mishriwala). He said that the body was noticed this morning by some locals and on their information police reached the spot and shifted the body to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where after conducting post mortem the body was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.
The spokesman said that the deceased was heavily drunk and therefore it appears that he accidentally fell into the water pit last night and failed to evict himself from the muddy water of the pit.
He said that in this connection, Kanachak police has initiated inquest proceedings under 174 CrPC.
