Man dies mysteriously, family protests against police

JAMMU, June 11: A man died this evening under mysterious circumstances in Sainik Colony area of city outskirts while his family held protest against the police at Maheshpura Chowk for delay in shifting him to GMC Jammu.
According to the reports, police post Sainik Colony this evening got information that a youth namely Mohd Amjid (32) son of Sagir Mir, resident of Poonch (presently Rajiv Nagar, Bathindi, Jammu) is lying unconscious at a vacant plot near Grand Hotel, Sainik Colony.
A police team was immediately rushed to the spot, which shifted the youth in unconscious condition to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where doctors declared him as brought dead. Meanwhile, the family of the deceased also reached the spot and took the body to Maheshpura Chowk, where they staged a brief protest, alleging that the youth was alive when found unconscious but due to delay on the part of the police to hospitalize him, he died.
However, they dispersed soon after the senior police officers reached the spot and assured to probe if there is any negligence on the part of the police. Later, the body was shifted to mortuary room of the hospital. In this connection, inquest proceedings under 174 CrPC have been initiated by police post Sainik Colony.
