Football event ‘Lets’ Play’ gets underway

SRINAGAR, June 11: The Department of Youth Services and Sports today organized an impressive and well attended and colourful opening ceremony for Inter-District State Level mega Football competition at TRC Astoturf Football Ground, here.
The occasion was graced by Financial Commissioner Dr AK Mehta as chief guest, while Commissioner Secretary to Government, Department of Youth Services & Sports J&K, Sarmand Hafeez was the guest of honour. Senior Police officers among other officials from Youth Services & Sports & J&K State Sports Council were present on the occasion.
88 teams both boys and girls across the State in two age groups of 13-16 and 17-19 are participating in the tournament.
Over 1200 players and officials are participating in this mega event. Director General Youth Services & Sports J&K, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman presented the welcome address at the inaugural function.
The matches for Girls will be played at District Ganderbal, while the boys will be vying for the top honours at different venues of District Srinagar.
Chief guest in his address applauded the role of Youth Services & Sports Department in conducting such type of activities round the year and assured his full cooperation for the upliftment of sports in J&K.
In 13-16 years boys, Pulwama defeated Udhampur by 4:0.
In 13-16 years boys, Poonch drubbed Ramban (5-0), while in 13-16 years boys, Kathua trounced Doda by 3:0.
