JAMMU, July 30: A man died due to drowning in a canal in Digiana area of city outskirts, late last night.
According to a police spokesperson, a man identified as Tejpal Sharma (38) son of Rampal Sharma, a resident of Sanjay Nagar, Digiana, in an inebriated condition fell into a canal when he was sitting on Digiana Puli, late last night.
The eye-witnessed raised an alarm following which many came to the rescue of the man and fished out him from the canal. In unconscious condition he was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where he was declared as brought dead by the doctors.
After conducting medico-legal formalities the body of the deceased was today handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.
A case in this connection has been registered at concerned police station.
