Man burnt alive near Ring Road, 3 detained

JAMMU, Nov 10: In a shocking incident, a 55-year-old man was allegedly burnt alive by a group of people over some old rivalry in the Kotli Mian Fateh area near Bishnah Ring Road today, triggering tension in the locality.
Officials said the victim, identified as Puran Chand, son of Dev Raj, and resident of Ward Number 2, Devi Dwara Mandir, RS Pura, was found engulfed in flames by some locals who immediately informed the police.

Accordingly, they said, a team from Police Station Miran Sahib rushed to the spot, helped douse the fire with locals’ assistance, and shifted the critically injured man to GMC Jammu, where he breathed his last around 6:10 PM.

They said the body has been kept in the hospital mortuary for post-mortem and other legal formalities.
Meanwhile, the FSL team has collected all the evidence from the crime scene and police are investigating the case from all possible angles.
Sources said three people have also been detained for questioning based on the victim’s alleged dying declaration, wherein he had held some people responsible for his death.
However, police had not made any official statement regarding the detentions till the press time.
