Man booked for possessing old notes

JAMMU, Nov 15: Railway Police today booked a person from Punjab for allegedly possessing Rs 3.40 lakh, mostly in old high-value currency notes, here.
According to SSP Railways, Rajinder Kumar Gupta, a person identified as Neeraj Sharma, son of Raj Kumar Sharma of Ludhiana, Punjab was booked after Rs 3,40,700 in illegal tender currency was recovered while conducting routine checking today at Jammu Railway Station.
The cash was primarily in the notes which are no longer legal tender, he added.
A case has been registered against him at GRP Jammu under Sections 55 and 109 of the CrPC, SSP informed.
Gupta stated that the Income Tax authorities were consulted and a team headed by Satbeerh, DD Income Tax along with Parvesh Khajuria, Inspector, Income Tax reached the spot to carry out departmental formalities. The source of cash will also be ascertained by the department, the SSP maintained.
The SSP Railways said anyone using railways for transporting black money will be dealt with sternly under law.
