Srinagar, Mar 24: A court in Kupwara today convicted a man in a POCSO case registered in Handwara, sentencing him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The Principal District and Sessions Court Kupwara convicted Irshad Ahmad Mir in connection with FIR No. 69/2021 registered at Police Station Kralgund.
The court awarded him 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 under Section 4(2) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Additionally, the accused was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 363 of the Indian Penal Code.
Both sentences will run concurrently.
The case pertains to the kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor girl in 2021.
