Srinagar, Dec 19: Police booked a man for allegedly killing his wife in North Kashmir’s Watlab area in Sopore.
Protests had erupted in the village after the woman’s relatives claimed that their daughter, Rehana Akhtar was hanged to death by her husband Irshad Ahmed Reshi.
Police said Rehana, a mother of two children, was married to Reshi a decade ago. Their relation was strained after Reshi had allegedly developed an “affair” with her maternal aunt.
The agitated family members were demanding arrest of her husband.
Superintendent of Police Abdul Qayoom told Excelsior they have arrested Reshi and the maternal aunt, and registered FIR No. 253 under Section 302, 109, 98 A RPC against him.
The SP said the medical examination conducted on her body at a hospital revealed that she had consumed poison.
