Man arrested with banned Chinese thread rolls

JAMMU, Aug 13: A man was today arrested after police recovered banned Chinese threads rolls from his possession near Dewana Mandir, Kacchi Chawani, falling under the jurisdiction of Pacca Danga police station.
As per police spokesman, based on reliable information, a team from Pacca Danga police station during the intervening night of August 12 and 13 conducted raid near Dewana Mandir, Kacchi Chawani and apprehended a man along with 351 rills of the string locally called as “Gattu Dor”, following which he was arrested.
The man was trying to sell the banned kite string among the local youth on the eve of Janam Ashtami, he added.
A case under FIR Number 101/17 under relevant sections has been registered at police station Pacca Danga and investigation started.
The use of ‘Chinese’ kite strings, made of nylon or any synthetic material which is non-biodegradable was recently banned by the National Green Tribunal on the grounds that it posed threat to life and the environment.
Police team led by SHO Pacca Danga SI Dheeraj Nagpal made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO City Varun Jandiyal and SP City Dr Vinod Kumar.
