Malala, Satyarthi and the Nobel Prize

Prof Javed Mughal
It has always been the motive of the west in general and the US in particular to spot out some black sheep from within the Muslims to be instrumental in denigrating the image of Islam and enervating the foundations of Muslim world in particular and the growing nations in general. Whatever I am going say in defence of my viewpoint to challenge the qualification of Malala for Nobel Prize may or may not be agreed to by most of my esteemed readers. But I think that everyone has a right to divulge ones viewpoint. I am saying what I have thought and felt about Malala and Kailash Satyarthi and their credentials and qualifications for the lofty Nobel Prize. By conferring Nobel Peace Prize on Malala the Govt. of Sweden has violated and made a mockery of Sir Alfred Nobel’s Will which reads as “the Nobel Peace Prize shall be awarded to the person who in the preceding years shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”. Now I utterly fail to understand as to what contribution has been made by Malala in curtailing the intensity of war-like situations in between India and Pakistan; in restoring normalcy in Palestine or elsewhere in the world in creating an amicable atmosphere between many nations where the peace and security is under threat. Was it not much earlier to confer this award on Malala at the age of 17? Didn’t we have so many other social workers in the world or even in India who could be blessed with this prestigious award? How can we be so biased and prejudiced in bestowing this Prize on those who really deserve for it? Why the Sweden Government has bypassed the matchless contribution by the staunch social stalwarts like A K Antony, Abby May Alcot, Abdul Karim Ghaznavi, Abhishek Singhvi, Sudha Murthy, Meddha Patkar, and many others who have excelled in diverse domains of activities. They stand multi-award holders and despite being thousand and one times better than and superior to the likes of Malala could not have an access to the Nobel Prize for the reasons best known to the concerned authorities and their evil conscience. I did not like Mr. Satyarthi while sharing this award with Malala keeping in view his colossal contribution to the upliftment of poor children and it will not be out of place to say that this award should have gone only and only to Mr. Satyarthi and none like Malala should have been the share-holder. Malala and Satyarthi, in no way, can be equated with each other. They are diametrically opposed to each other. On one hand we have Mr. Satyarthi with a solid qualification to bag this prestigious award and on the other hand we have one who has nothing worthwhile to her credit excepting being a mouthpiece of the American and the western block’s vicious and anti-world policies. The west has always picked up certain people especially Muslims, programmed them in a particular style of their choice, washing their brain and using them as a tool against their enemies especially the Muslim World. They purchased Tasleema Nareen, Salman Rushdie and now Malala to become an Achilles Heel to the Muslim Countries. This claim of mine is also corroborated with a reference to the recently published book of Malala titled ‘I am Malala’ wherein she has forcefully supported Salman Rushdie like his Father. Undoubtedly I also support her viewpoint and maintain that instead of raising Rushdie’s TRP by coming on the road, we should have responded to his blasphemous and baseless Book and confuted him before the entire world. I don’t disagree with Malala but again the question arises whether this publication or a slight supportive reference to Sulman Rushdie is enough to make her qualified for Nobel Peace Prize.
After all, many great and the significant researches have been carried out by the great researchers of the world on Salman Rushdie. if Salman Rushdie’s mention in a book can enable the writer to have Nobel Prize, then why not Salman Rushdie himself.  As a matter of fact, Malala has been iconized for raising voice against Taliban and in faovur of girls’ education in Pakistan and Afghanistan. I fully endorse her stand and appreciate as much as it deserves to be appreciated but the point is: Is mere raising voice enough to make her honoured with the crown of this award? No, never, not at all. Let us have a dip into the recent history of Talibans and the reign of terror let to  loose by them on the people and come across countless great souls who have stood against their brutalism and barbarism and have lost their families, and their precious lives too. Have we ever been concerned about them? No. It is primarily because they did what they deemed fit to be done and they left no stone unturned to stop Talibanic nonsense but they did not get ready to put forth the cut-and-dried policies and programmes of the West. They refrained from playing like puppets in the hands the foreign powers who always try to enslave the very heart and mind of their counterparts. Malala in fact became the agent of the West in a similar fashion as Pakistan have been since 1953 and accepted to carry out the programmes of the Western forces. By studying about Malala in depth and details, I came to know that she was not the only bravest but one of the so many brave girls in school. The Talibans tried to incarcerate girls within their homes allowing them no more for studies. Malala, not alone but with some of her brave companions spoke hardly once or twice against these Talibanic recalcitrance as a result of which she alongwith her bold and brave school mates was attacked by the Talibanies. Her survival proved highly lucrative for her. The Western forces instantly, as a part of their policy, came forward to provide shelter to her and in return they used her as a tool to propagate their intensions. Otherwise, we have many women heroines who created a history by working for the cause of women empowerment by fighting tooth and nails for their rights to education and equal opportunities. None with a rational mind to think and a human heart to feel has guts bypass the outstanding contribution of Qasim Amin , Nawal el-Saadawi Hoda Shaarawi  Engy Ghozlan, Olympe de Gouges, Anne-Josèphe Théroigne de Méricourt , Margaret “Gretta” Cousins,  Sunitha Krishnan, Parvin Ardalan,  Bibi Khanoom Astarabadi, Anna Haslam and others whose name and fame will remain preserved in the golden letters of the human history for their sky-meddling service for the emancipation of women folk but the Nobel Prize distributors looked through the coloured glasses and did not have vision to find all these epoch-making iconic women of India, Iran, Australia and Egypt. What else should we call this type of myopic approach of the Sweden Government if we don’t call them intellectually and ideologically bankrupt? The Countries like USA, in fact, found a good instrument and mechanical device in the garb of Malala Yousafzai that could be used against the Muslim nations. She hailed from a very poor background and since the poverty has always been exploited and cashed on by the lords of wealth and power down the ages, Malala was easily ensnared. There is nothing bad in eliminating Talibans since I take these so-called Islamic organizations most un-Islamic and real enemies of humanity on this globe. But on this pretext, denigrating the entire Muslim community is highly condemnable. It is said that the US and the UK used to record the ready-made anti-Muslim speeches of Malala from Pakistan and relay and telecast them from the USA and Britain. This was the reason that Malala has been crowned with this award. It is a matter of great anguish for the entire understanding and intelligent community of the world that the Nobel Prize which encouraged and appreciated the distinguished services of the great souls on genuine criterion till yesterday has now dwindled into a mere gift given to the non-deserving lots of the society just for petty gains. This way, the Swedish Government, by distributing the Nobel Prize between Satyarthi and Malala have not only reduced the sanctity of the award but has blatantly and ruthlessly under-rated the sky-meddling services of Mr. Satyarthy who earned it after a life-long struggle.
