Over the past some time, the Directorate of School Education, Jammu(DSEJ) has taken many innovative measures to rejuvenate the system of education in Jammu Division and make it a funny, enjoyable and purposeful activity.Among such initiatives launched are the issuance of annual calender for guidance and counselling of students, establishment of Guidance and counselling Cells in Higher Secondery Schools, uploading of school and employee data, Invitation of online applications for transfer, creative and enjoyable holidays’ homework to the students during summer vacations, establishment of pink toilets in schools etc.
There is no doubt that our students are the agents of social change and future custodians of country.As such, it is imperative that they should be provided such education which focusses on their all round and holistic development and prepares them to face the challenges of this fast changing world .For achieving this objective, it is essential that the teachers who are entrusted with the onerous responsibility of developing such skills as help the students to gain knowledge and face life properly, should themselves be properly trained and motivated and the atmosphere in schools be provided in such a manner that every student gets the opportunity of learning in a stress free and enjoyable manner.It is in this context that various activities included in the annual calender will help them to destress themselves and enjoy learning rather than taking it a boring/dull/ burdensome activity.
Moreover, the DSEJ has issued instructions to the teachers to allot such homework as keeps them busy during the breaks but provides enjoyment and induces curiosity at the same time.Writing memoirs of their visits to their grandparents and relatives, observing changes in the behaviour of birds after feeding them for a few days, plantation around their homes, writing down ideas for making their school and the classroom beautiful etc are such activities which will keep students busy and also help to develop social skills and a sense of responsibility in them.The decision of the DSEJ to invite online applications from lecturers,Head masters and masters is also a great step which will go a long way in avoiding unnecessary rush at the Direcorate and avoiding inconvenience to the employees.
