SRINAGAR, Aug 23: Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri today directed the officers to make maximum use of the left over macadamization season and start the road construction soon in Kashmir.
The direction in this regard was given by the Minister while reviewing the status of construction of various road and bridges besides macadamization work of roads in Kashmir division at a high level meeting.
He said that most of the working season is over and it is time to gear up men and machinery for the maximum utilization of leftover working season. He exhorted upon the engineers to start the macadamization work of the roads as early as possible and ensure that the targets fixed under this core sector are achieved in full before the end of the working season in Kashmir.
The Minister asked the officials of the department to start work on allotted road projects as soon as possible so that left over time is utilized for the benefit of the public. He said that the department has available budget of Rs 2800 crores under PMGSY and the same could be utilized for the maximum benefit of public.
He said that better road communication is pivotal for socio-economic upliftment of the society. He said the Govt is committed to provide better road connectivity to all areas of the State, adding that for the purpose adequate funds are available under various schemes for better road connectivity in the Kashmir. He asked the officers to take people into confidence in construction works and ensure that allotted macadamization work of the roads are done in all constituencies uniformly.
He also instructed taking up macadamization work of the roads in far flung areas like Uri, Gurez , Kangan and other areas. He stressed for early macadamization of boulevard, Residency road, Shalimar and many areas of the Srinagar city.
Commissioner Secretary, R&B, Rohit Kansal, Chief Engineer R&B, Kashmir, Satish Kumar Razdan, Chief Engineer PMGSY Kashmir, Superintending Engineers of R&B and PMGSY of Kashmir districts were present in the meeting.
Veeri directed the officers to ensure their field visits to ongoing project sites and monitor the quality and speedy completion of the works in all areas of the division.
Superintending Engineers of various wings apprised the Minister about the status of various ongoing projects in their jurisdictions.
