‘Make Dogri compulsory subject in all schools of Jammu’

SAMBA, Mar 28: A deputation of civil society led by Chhajju Singh Katal, president, Civil Society, Samba and Khem Raj Sharma, president, Sarna Nehru Youth Club, today met Chief Education Officer (CEO) Samba and DC Samba and submitted memorandum of demands.
The deputation told the DC and CEO that Dogri is the mother tongue of Duggar Pardesh and is included in the 8th schedule of India but despite that it could not get its appropriate place till today due to the negligence of higher authorities of J&K. The delegation members demanded that Dogri be taught in all Government and private schools of Jammu region.
“There are number of graduate and post graduate M Phil and Phd candidates in Dogri subject who are getting over age but Government did not create any post of teacher from the Primary level to Higher Secondary level,” the delegation said, adding, there was a time when Dogri was being taught as a subject near about in 50 Higher Secondary Schools but in these days there are only 7 higher secondary schools where Dogri is available as a subject.
The deputation members said though in the year 2017, Government of J&K has issued an order that Dogri will be taught as a compulsory subject in 9th and 10th from the session 2018-19 but the order was not complied and at present there is no school where Dogri is available as a teaching subject in 9th and 10th classes.
The members of the deputation appealed the DC and the CEO to issue an order for all the schools of Jammu division to introduce Dogri as compulsory subject from primary to high higher secondary level and create the post of Dogri teacher.
Kemat Raj, Kuldeep Raj, Ajay Sharma, Ranjeet Singh, Kuldeep Raj Shastri, Surinder Sharma, Purushotam Sharma, Balbir Singh, Swarn Singh, Surjit Singh and a number of Dogri Scholars of Jammu University were part of the deputation.
