SRINAGAR, May 14: Security forces today averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir.
Last week, Security forces also defused an IED in the district.
Sources said a Road Opening Party (ROP) noticed a powerful IED planted by militants at Khumriyal on Kupwara-Lolab road to target security force vehicle.
Traffic on the Kupwara-Lolab road was stopped and those present in the area were taken to safe places.
The sources said the IED was later defused and traffic on the road was restored in the afternoon. (AGENCIES)
