SRINAGAR : Troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) today foiled a major infiltration bid from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) in the frontier district of Kupwara, Defence Ministry spokesperson said here today.
Col N N Joshi troops noticed a group of heavily armed militants infiltrating into this side from POK in Nougam sector in the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir.
However, when challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened fire with automatic weapons.
Troops immediately retaliated ensuing a fierce gun battle, he said adding that further details were awaited.
Meanwhile, additional troops were rushed to the forest area from different directions to foil any attempt by militants to escape. (agencies)
