SRINAGAR : One militant was killed as alert troops foiled yet another infiltration bid from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) in north Kashmir district of Bandipora, a defence ministry spokesman said.
Col Rajesh Kalia said that troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from PoK in Gurez sector early this morning under the cover of darkness.
However, when challenged and asked to surrender, the militants resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons. Troops also retaliated and in the ensuing gun battle, a militant was killed. He said three weapons were also recovered.
Additional security forces from nearby camps have also joined the operation in the dense woods, he said. (AGENCIES)
