UDHAMPUR, June 18: The farmers of all the Panchayats of tehsil Majalta held a meeting at Khoon and besides discussing their burning problems, warned the Government to launch ‘Satyagrah’ if their grievances were not redressed.
Alleging large scale irregularities in the disbursement of relief in lieu of loss to crops due to drought in the year 2009, the Kissans demanded an impartial inquiry in the matter. They also demanded compensation to the farmers of left out Panchayats of Majalta tehsil and also stressed for issuing of bearer cheques as farmers were finding it hard to encash Payees Account cheques of small amounts of say Rs 500 and even less than that.
The farmers also demanded crop insurance and issuance of Pass Books containing Khasra Number and other details pertaining to the land occupied by them. They also urged the Government to conduct a meeting of all the departments associated with affairs of farmers, once a month in the tehsil for benefit of Kissans.
The meeting held under the chairmanship of UNESCO Awardee and noted social worker Surat Singh Sumbria was also addressed by Chain Singh, Tara Singh, Kirpal Singh, Bishan Dass, Arjan Singh, Charan Dass, Ved Pal Sharma, Govind Ram, Ramal Singh, Yash Pal and Badri Nath. They resolved to meet again onJune 27 at Parnara to chalk out further course of action.
