Maiden Shivratri Mela at Peerkho from Feb 15: Rajesh

JAMMU, Jan 17: Business and tourism stakeholders of Jammu on Saturday breathed a sigh of relief after the announcement of first ever 3-day Shivratri Mela from February 15 at the historical pilgrimage site of Peerkho situated on the bank of River Tawi falling under Jammu East Constituency.
The announcement came in the wake of efforts initiated by the newly elected MLA of the Jammu East constituency, Rajesh Gupta for providing impetus to tourism activity in the region.
During his visit to Peerkho today, Rajesh informed that the 3-day Mela on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri at ancient Peerkho shrine famous for Aap Sambhoo Temple and Jamvant cave shall not only quench the religious aspirations of Jammuites but will also bring cheer and prosperity to the loss ridden tourism stakeholders of this city.
Addressing a gathering at Peerkho, he assured that this prolific event will prove fruitful for almost all the people related with tourism sector. He said that the Mela is just the beginning as many other innovative projects are in the offing to make Jammu East a better place to live. He said that this Mela in collaboration with Tourism Department will not only promote tourism and business but shall also go a long way in giving fillip to the edifice in the vicinity.
He said that prior to Mela, the construction and renovation of toilet blocks, stairs, approach road and other related civil works besides landscaping will be carried out to ensure convenience of the devotees and tourists.
“Three wheeler and tour operators will also be significantly benefited with this three days event”, said Rajesh.
Director RK Verma and Mahant of Peerkho Shrine Ravi Nath also spoke on the occasion.
Among others present were Sarvam Sarasvati, Ramesh, Ashwani, Dalip, Sunil, Rajesh, Gulshan, Dhanswaroop, Sapolia, Vijay, Rajinder, Kuldeep, Manav, Amit, Gopal, Hari Om, Chaman Lal, etc.
