JAMMU, Nov 21: Mahila wing of JKNPP today held a demonstration at Exhibition Ground in protest against the raging inflation coupled with the new fiscal policy of the Government imposing new taxes and enhancing the already existing taxes.
A large number of Mahila Panthers, led by Manju Singh, senior JKNPP leader and wife of Harshdev Singh (Chairman JKNPP), assembled near Press Club Jammu and held a dharna seeking the rollback of new taxes and initiation of effective steps to control the surging prices of essential commodities.
Addressing the gathering, Manju Singh flayed the imposition of additional taxes on various services including Railway travel, eating out in Restaurants, Air travel, Mobile phone, cable services etc in the name of ‘Swachh Bharat’ cess. She regretted that people who were already reeling under the soaring prices of essential commodities including pulses, onions, cooking oils besides other edibles, were made by the Government to bear the additional burden of fresh taxation. Describing the fresh taxes as highly unfair and atrocious, she demanded immediate rollback of all such taxes.
Manju Singh further flayed the Government for lack of political will in countering the price rise. She said that the Government was deliberately allowing the cartels of traders to fleece the customers with full connivance of helmsmen. Modi should remember that raging prices of essential commodities certainly could not herald ‘achhe din’ as promised by him during elections, she added.
Advocate Parveen Kesar, general secretary Panthers Mahila Wing, alleged that the Government lacked concern for the marginalized sections of society.
Others, who spoke on the occasion, included Sandhya Sandesh, Renu Singh, Madhu Bala, Arti Sharma, Asha Rani, Smita, Jyoti, Manjeet, Ruby, Manorama Bogal, Sanjana Bhagat and Jeevan Jyoti.
