KATHUA, Sept 26: In connection with the ongoing campaign to expose anti-poor policies of the BJP led NDA Government at the Centre, the Mahila Congress held a protest in Kathua town, against an unprecedented hike in the prices of essential commodities, including cooking gas cylinders.
Addressing the protesters, J&K president of Mahila Congress and former MLA, Indu Pawar said the people are suffering from inflation while the Narendra Modi Government is busy in tax collection. “The Modi Government came to power by showing big dreams to the people. But today, it has become difficult for the poor to purchase expensive cooking gas cylinders. Inflation is rising persistently and the price of LPG cylinder is soon going to cross Rs 1,000. The prices of petrol and diesel are also on fire,” she added.
The Congress leader said that prices of subsidized and non-subsidized LPG domestic cylinders are hiked by the Government after repeated intervals, giving constant shockers to the general public.
She further said the Central Government had failed to control the price of LPG cylinder, which had touched nearly Rs 1,000. People from the middle and lower-income groups were the worst affected as they had lost their livelihood during the COVID-19 lockdown and it was during this period that the Government had hiked cylinder price.
Petrol and diesel price also increased. The Government, it appeared, had failed to sense people’s sentiment and gauge their hardships.
Mahila Congress president further said that women folk is the worst suffer from the anti-poor policies being propagated by `corporate-controlled’ BJP Government. She regretted that instead of solving basic problems of the common masses, BJP led Government is only protecting the interests of big corporate houses by sucking the blood of the poor people.
The meeting was organised by Congress Mahila Wing district president for Kathua, Veena Devi. Besides her, others who spoke on the occasion included Anchana Devi, Jyoti Verma and Sakshi Devi.
