JAMMU, Apr 17: Demanding immediate withdrawal of Section 133-H of J&K Land Revenue Act, which debars Mahajan, Khatri and Sikhs from purchasing agricultural land in Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha has threatened stir if the aggrieved communities were not provided justice.

“There is a great resentment and anger in the members of our Mahajan community which can lead strong agitation against such discrimination as no any State or UT in India except J&K has barred these two communities for the sale purchase of Agriculture land,” said Romesh Chander Gupta, president of Jammu central Mahajan Sabha, while addressing a press conference, here today
According to the amended J&K Land Revenue Act Samvat 1996, only agriculturist can purchase land. No sale, gift exchange or mortgage can be made in favour of a person who is non agriculturist.
“Govt has played conspiracy against Mahajans, Khatries and Sikhs under the said New Land Laws. The order is prejudicial and totally against the spirit of the Constitution which does not provide for caste based laws and order to favour one and harm the other,” said Romesh Chander.
“In India, he added, any person residing anywhere in the country can purchase or sale land but it is extremely depressing that Mahajans, Khatries and Sikh of J&K Union Territory cannot purchase even one marla of agriculture land, whereas there is no such restriction on people belonging to other communities.
Alleging that the Government has done gross injustice to Mahajans and Khatries in J&K, Romesh Chander said that the Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha tried its best to bring this burning problem to the notice of Lt Governor J&K UT but all its communications fell into deaf ears of the bureaucrats.
“The Mahajan Sabha tried its best to get the permission to allow our deputation to see the Lt Governor to personally discuss this problem, but all our efforts proved futile. If this trend of the Government dominated by the bureaucrats continues, the faith of the people will soon vanish and aggrieved persons will come on the road to get justice forcibly,” he warned.
