JAMMU, Mar 10: Alleging harassment of legal owners of allotted plots, Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha has sought intervention of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for necessary directions to nullify the final notice issued by the J&K Housing Board, vide Notice NB HB/Secy/9133-34 dated 01.02.2023.
According to this notice, holders of vacant plots have been served final opportunity to start the construction of residential houses within two months failing which lease deed agreement will be cancelled.
“This said notice is totally unjustified, illegal, and needs to be taken back .The Board should seek an apology from the public for such an act. A large number of people had become legal owners of plots allotted to them after fulfilling all the formalities and submitting the required documents along with the cost i.e hard earned money was deposited as fixed by the Housing Board. These allottees have been in possession of said plots for decades. Now, the Board has suddenly started issuing circulars raising questions on the ownership of such land and threatening to implement decisions taken more than 20 years back,” reads the letter to LG, written by Romesh Chander Gupta, president of the Mahajan Sabha.
He also alleged that the Housing Board was not processing the cases of legal heirs and has been demanding charges once again for the already allotted plots, which was not justified by any yardstick. It will open a Pandora of legal cases which will create more panic amongst the public, he added.
JCMS President also pointed out that despite permission by the court and earlier decisions of the board, authorities of JDA/Housing and review departments were not allowing family division of the plots . These departments should be instructed to act upon the decisions of the court, he added and appealed the Lt Governor to issue necessary instructions so that common genuine lease holders/allottees may not suffer.
