JAMMU, Mar 17: On the occasion of 123rd birth anniversary of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan- the first Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mahajan Sabha Gandhi Nagar celebrated the day by organizing `Mahajan Parivar Milan’, here today.
Impressive cultural items and felicitation of the Biradri luminaries marked the occasion wherein the Minister for Planning Ajay Sadhotra and Minister for Housing Raman Bhalla were the chief guest while MLC Davender Singh Rana was the guest of honour.
Both the chief guests as well as the guest of honour assured all possible support to the Mahajan Sabha in its endeavor for upliftment of the community, particularly economically weaker families and widows. Paying tributes to Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan, they also appreciated the efforts of Mahajan Sabha Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar and Channi Himmat for the welfare activities.
Earlier, the function started with the recitation of Gaytri Mantra. It was followed by lighting of traditional lamp, tributes to Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan and presentation of impressive cultural programme.
President of Akhil Bhartiya Mahajan Shiromani Sabha, Delhi, Dina Nath Mahajan, who presided over the function, appealed the Biradri to donate generously for helping needy persons and widows of the community. He also highlighted the activities of the Mahajan Shiromani Sabha.
In his address, president of Mahajan Sabha Gandhi Nagar informed that the Sabha has started free matrimonial services in the office of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan Park.
Prominent among others who spoke on the occasion, included Kavinder Gupta (former Mayor), Dinesh Gupta (Chairman of Citizens Cooperative Bank), Bal Krishan Gupta, Vinod Mahajan, S P Langar and Kailash Langar. Jagmohan Gupta presented the vote of thanks.
Officers and State awardees from the Biradri, who were felicitated on the occasion, included Shipra Gupta, Dr Monika Gupta, Shwetambri Gupta, Tina Mahajan, Sahil Jandial, Saishte Mahajan, Akhil Langer, Karan Gupta, Anil Gupta, Sumit Gupta, Sarvesh Kumar Gupta, Adarsh Pal Gupta, Akriti Mahajan and Ravi Rohmetra-a writer and social activist.
The Sabha also honoured the couples who had solemnized simple marriage without dowry. They included Natish Mahajan and Dr Aastha Mahajan, Sachin Mahajan and Samriti Mahajan, Anirudh Gupta and Swaty Gupta, Kapil Gupta and Shikha, Akash Mahajan and Stuti, Ashish Gupta and Megha, Nitin Mahajan and Mehak, Japesh Gupta and Neha, Atul Gupta and Nivedita, Sumit Gupta and Neelam, Sachin Gupta and Itishree, Manik Gupta and Aparna Mahajan, Manik Mahajan and Nidhi Gupta.
A large number of people from the Mahajan community attended the function.
