Srinagar, Jan 2: Land mafia in league with the employees of Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) are encroaching Government land which is not meant for any sort of construction in Bemina while the SDA is acting as a mute spectator.
The residents of Bemina told Excelsior that the employees of the SDA in league with the land mafia are carrying out land fillings at the spots where the construction has been prohibited by the SDA.
Scores of people from the belt consisting of SDA colony, Iqra colony, Baitul Salam, Bemina and Qamarwari said that it has been declared as a green belt by the SDA and nobody is allowed to carry out any sort of construction work there, let alone filling the land.
They alleged that the employees of the SDA along with the land mafia are trying to demarcate residential plots on the land.
“We have brought the issue into the notice of the VC, SDA and he said that they do not know who is doing this, he assured action but then nothing happened,” Jalal ud Din, president of a local Coordination Committee told Excelsior.
He said that there is a transmission line passing through the area and the land which is being encroached is not meant for construction as it falls under the green belt designated by the SDA.
“Belt was identified 25 years ago by the SDA which has been declared as green belt and any sort of construction is not permissible. We don’t know who comes during the night and carries out landfilling and also delivers other construction material to the site. They are trying to make land plots out of it. We are sure that the employees of the SDA are involved in this, but no action has been taken so far,” the locals said.
They added that the VC SDA has also visited the spot, but there is no stopping to the land mafias who are carrying out the violations without even getting noticed.
The VC SDA Bashir Lone, said that he was aware of the violation and that the SDA has taken necessary measures in this regard. “I am aware of it and I have assured the locals that the action will be taken against those who are involved. We have formed a committee in this regard which has been tasked to take care of the spot where the violations have taken place. Anyone who is found to be involved will be booked,” he said.
