Madhav takes back comment that NC acted at Pak behest

Guv attracted to Gujarat model: PC

NEW DELHI, Nov 22:
BJP general secretary Ram Madhav today withdrew his words after a furious NC leader Omar Abdullah dared him to prove his allegation that his party had tied up with the PDP to form Government in Jammu and Kashmir at Pakistan’s behest.
The BJP and National Conference (NC) leaders exchanged sharp words on Twitter, a day after the State’s Governor dissolved the Assembly, with Madhav asking Abdullah to fight the next polls together with the PDP if “genuine love” between the two parties promoted a “failed Government” formation attempt.
As Malik dissolved the Assembly, Madhav, who is his party’s point person for the state, alleged that “fresh instructions” were given to the two regional parties from across the border to come together and form a Government.
The NC and PDP, he alleged, had boycotted local body polls in the State earlier because of instructions from Pakistan. Both regional parties have been arch political rivals in the State.
Abdullah took to Twitter to hit out at the BJP leader.
“You have RAW, NIA & IB at your command (CBI too is your parrot) so have the guts to place evidence in the public domain. Either prove this or be man enough to apologise. Don’t practice shoot & scoot politics,” the former Chief Minister said.
Ram Madhav responded, “Just take it in your stride Omar Abdullah. Not questioning your patriotism at all. But the sudden love between NC and PDP and the hurry to form Government leads to many suspicions and political comments. Not to offend you.” In the tweet, he added an emoji with a toothy smile.
Abdullah did not seem amused.
“No, misplaced attempts at humour won’t work. You HAVE claimed my party has been acting at the behest of Pakistan. I dare you to prove it! Place the evidence of your allegation of NC boycott of ULB polls at Pak behest in public domain,” he tweeted.
Ram Madhav then responded with a tweet which appeared to be aimed at defusing the tensions.
“Now that you deny any external pressure I take back my comment, but now that you proved it was genuine love between NC and PDP that prompted a failed Government formation attempt, you should fight next elections together. Mind you it’s political comment and not personal,” he said, adding a laughing emoji.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram today slammed Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik for dissolving the State Assembly, saying he was attracted to the “Gujarat model” of Government not the Westminster model.
The former Union Home and Finance Minister said the Governor was “happy” to keep the assembly under suspended animation as long as no one staked a claim to form Government.
“The moment someone staked a claim, he dissolved the Assembly! Parliamentary democracy standing on its head!
“The Westminster model of democracy is outdated. Like in all other matters, it is the Gujarat model that has appealed to the J&K Governor,” he tweeted.
Terming the decision to dissolve the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly as “unconstitutional, immoral and unethical”, Congress leader Manish Tewari today said it was a “murder of democracy”.
Tewari said that after the PDP, the NC and the Congress staked claim to form Government, the Governor’s decision to dissolve the Assembly without giving them a chance to form Government and prove a majority “is murder of democracy and must be challenged”.
“Decision of J&K Governor is unconstitutional. After 3 parties NC-PDP-INC staked claim to form govt without giving them a chance to form govt & prove majority to dissolve assembly is MURDER OF DEMOCRACY. MUST BE CHALLENGED IN COURT,” he tweeted.
“Dissolution of Assembly in this manner is unconstitutional, immoral and unethical. A dangerous harbinger of things to come. Thank God founding fathers were wise enough not to provide for President’s rule at Centre? Shudder to think what could have happened when BJP looses 2019,” he also tweeted.
The Congress leader also challenged the BJP to name even one leader martyred in the fight against terror, after it accused the Congress, the National Conference, and J&K People’s Democratic Party of being “terror friendly”.
“INC-NC-PDP are terror friendly and BJP is anti- terrorist? WHAT SANCTIMONIOUS HUMBUG. Challenge BJP to name even one leader of consequence martyred in fight against terror anywhere in India and I can name 500 Congress leaders of STANDING . I am sure NC and PDP too can,” he tweeted. (PTI)
