JAMMU, Sept 15: Member Parliament (MP) Jammu-Poonch constituency Madan Lal Sharma today laid foundation stone of the community hall at Sainik Colony to be constructed from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at the cost of Rs.16.50 lakh.
While speaking, Sharma strongly voiced for the rights of ex-servicemen.
Expressing dismay, Sharma said that it is unfortunate that quota for re-employment of Army personnel is not implemented in J&K. He demanded the proper implementation of existing quota and recommended for its enhancement to actual benefit of the soldiers and their families. He also demanded the immediate waiver off VAT from canteen items to facilitate families of both serving and ex-servicemen.
Sharma also demanded full legal and other protection to the serving/retired soldiers and special package for the soldiers belonging to J&K who sacrificed their lives while fighting militancy/facing border fury.
Sharma also voiced for educational facilities for the families of soldiers and demanded the opening of Novadaya and Kenderiya Vidyalay at block and tehsil level, so that the families of the soldiers do not migrate from villages in search of better education for their children.
Raman Bhalla, Minister for Horticulture and Culture also lauded the role of Army on the occasion.
Among others present were Manjit Singh, former Minister, Dr Khem Raj Sharma, Dr RD Sharma, Major General SK Sharma, Lieutenant Colonel KN Raina, Squadron leader PR Sharma, Colonel Mangotra, etc.
Earlier, Sharma addressed a largely attended meeting at Gandhi Nagar wherein various issues related to development of Jammu and forthcoming Lok Sabha elections were discussed.
He emphasized for the development of Jammu region in particular and State in general. He called upon the Government to snub the anti-National and communal forces, so that State can prosperous in the path of development.
