NEW DELHI, Mar 14: Lieut-enant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands with additional charge of Pondicherry, Lt. General A.K. Singh called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here today and discussed a wide range of issues related to the development in the islands.
Lt. Gen. A.K. Singh presented a resume of the recent events in the islands, where certain sections of society had raised some of the local demands which were pending for quite sometime.  He also dwelt in detail about the various measures taken to expedite the pace of development in the Union Territory.
Dr. Jitendra Singh conveyed to the Lt. Governor, that Prime Minister Narendra Modi takes a personal interest in the development of the peripheral States and peripheral regions of the country and therefore, the kind of focus that regions like Andaman & Nicobar Islands are receiving during the current Central regime was perhaps never witnessed before. He also referred to the need to exploit the potential of the islands to the maximum extent in order to promote tourism, employment and revenue.
Describing Andaman & Nicobar as an area closely interwoven with the history of freedom struggle, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, many stalwarts of freedom struggle had spent prime of their life in the cellular prison, as a result of which today, the present generation is enjoying the fruits of independence and democracy. He also recalled Netaji Subash Chandra Bose’s historic visit  on the eve of India attaining independence.
Gen Singh also gave Dr Jitendra Singh an update on the current political and administrative scenario in Pondicherry.
Dr. Jitendra Singh assured Lt. Gen. A.K. Singh that various issues raised by him will be put across before the concerned departments and Ministries for further perusal.
