LS Polls: 50 pc polling till noon in Jammu, no violence

JAMMU : The Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary Constituency recorded 50 percent polling till this noon in the first phase Lok Sabha polls, an official here said.
“Situation across all the districts is quite peaceful and brisk polling is in progress at all the polling stations for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha Seat,” an Election Officer told.    “Polling in all the four districts of the Constituency was recorded 50 percent till 1300 hrs,” Ajeet Kumat Sahu, Returning Officer for Jammu Parliamentary Constituency said.    Mr Sahu said till noon, Jammu recoded 45.02 per cent, Samba recorded highest 54.27 per cent, Rajouri recorded 39.76 per cent and Poonch recorded 37 per cent polling.    SSP Samba Anil Magotra told that large number of voters exercised their franchise in the bordering belts, adding, “all security arrangements are in place and overall situation in the district is peaceful.”
Meanwhile, a mild incident of violence was reported from Gursai area of Poonch district wherein workers of PDP and Congress clashed with each other in which one person sustained injuries.
Nineteen candidates including top guns from mainstream political parties Jugal Kishore Sharma (BJP), Madan Lal Sharma (Congress), H C Jalmeria (JKNPP) and Yash Pal Sharma (PDP) have thrown their hats to test their lucks in Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary Constituency.
