JAMMU, July 27: Irate residents of lower Roop Nagar today held a strong protest demonstration against the power and water crisis in the area.
The protest was led by Advocate Danish Bhardwaj and Krishan Sharma while a large number of residents of the area including women participated in the protest demonstration. The protesting residents accused the PDD authorities of their total failure in maintaining power supply in the area due to which people have suffered a lot in this hot and humid temperature.
Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Dansih Bhardwaj said in last 3 days, 3rd power transformer has damaged in their locality and in this hot and humid weather, they are without power supply for last over three days. He said they approached the higher authorities several times with the plea to fabricate the load on the transformer of their locality which is at present bearing the load of four sectors but no body paid heed to their demands.
Krishan Sharma said that despite collecting hefty fee from consumers in these localities the PDD has failed to ensure proper supply of electricity which comes for few minutes and remains off for hours together. He said in the absence of power, the people of the locality are also facing the water scarcity as well and the concerned authorities have failed to solve the issue despite repeated pleas.
Protestors raised slogans against the PDD authorities and warned them that in case they failed to sort out the issue they will launch a forceful agitation against the Department. They blocked the road leading to Jammu-Akhnoor national highway for around one hour.
SHO Domana, Mahesh Sharma rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protestors but all in vain. Later, when the power supply was restored in the area, the habitants lifted the road blockade and dispersed.
