Lokpal Bill

Sir,
For 40 years Lokpal Bill had no priority for our politicians. Suddenly, in December 2013, everyone rushed in to pass the bill, and claim credit for it. What politics? It is thanks to the triumph of AAP, and thereby the voice of the people for corruption free governance by honest leaders, that all forces and political parties joined to make it happen, after 40 years. A sudden warming up of Rahul Gandhi to Anna Hazare and softening of stand by the BJP, are all symptoms of 2014 elections fever.
Now that the Lokpal has become a reality, its success will depend upon how sincerely it is implemented on ground. The law by itself can not change much. It is the people who have to change. Despite Anna’s movement since 2011, there was hardly any effect on corruption in the country. It is because, the people only raised slogans without meaning it. Now, the AAP has raised fresh hopes, based on peoples’ mandate for removal of corruption from the country. Let the positive wave in the country pick up momentum for cleansing the political system, and a healthy society. Lets hope we see a better Indiain years to come.

Sir,
Lokpal  Bill has after all odds and amendments been  finally passed by the Parliament and soon may become an Act after the President gives his assent. What about our state where a Lokayukta or a Lokpal type of authority is very much required to control rampant corruption?.
The government must collect due data of all those cases pending due enquiry into allegations of irregularities and corruption so that they are brought to justice under a new system faster than the usual one. Agreed, the state very recently set up vigilance commission but that has got no proper teeth to tackle and punish the corrupt and the tainted. A lot of service to the people and fulfilling one of their  basic demands is to evolve a mechanism having a full fledged constitutional status to punish the corrupt and ask for the sources of huge properties and other assets amassed by the suspecting figures in administrative and public life in the state.  A strong state Lokaukta is very much needed.
