UDHAMPUR, July 3: Demanding Government Degree College at Moungri, villagers of Damnote, Moungri, Basnote, Panjar, Kalsote, Dubbi Gali and other Panchayats today held a strong protest demonstration and blocked the road.
The protesting villagers raised slogans in support of their demand and urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to personally intervene for Government Degree College at Moungri to ensure higher education to poor students of these villages, particularly girl students.
The protest was organized under the banner of College Coordination Committee, led by Hans Raj Sarpanch (Panchyat Damnot), Kailash Kumari (Sarpanch Moungri), Koushal Kumar (Sarpanch Panjar), Savita Devi (Sarpanch Kalsote), Yash Paul (Sarpanch Dubbi Gali), Bimbla Devi (Sarpanch Lalli), Kunj Lal (Sarpanch Ladda- A), Des Raj (Sarpanch Ladda- B) and Krishan Singh (Sarpanch Jadsar Kote)
They explained that Government Degree College Moungri was sanctioned on 11-04- 2018 vide Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet decision number 203/12/2017 Government order no 265-HE of 2018. As per the order, six Degree Colleges in uncovered area of Jammu division were sanctioned and Government Degree College Moungri was at serial number 2 in the list but till date the said order has not been implemented,” they lamented and added that only GDC Moungri was left out without any reason while the remaining five colleges are going to be made functional very soon.
The villagers appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik to do justice with the locals of Tehsil Moungri, which is far flung area of the district Udhampur. “Students of the area, particularly girl students are eagerly waiting for admission in the college to fulfill the PM Narendra Modi’s slogan of `Betti Padao, Betti Bachao’,” they said and also warned that the College Coordination Committee Moungri will have no option other than to adopt agitational path if justice is denied to them.
