Reasi, Dec 10 : As thieves struck six shops at Pouni main bazaar last night, locals held a strong protest in the town and blocked Katra-Shiv Khori road for several hours.
Demanding arrest of culprits at the earliest, the agitating people held demonstration and raised slogans. They assembled at main bazaar Pouni and blocked the road, which led to huge traffic jam on both ends of the Katra-Shiv Khori stretch.
The protesting people, including the local shopkeepers, were demanding crackdown against the criminals to check recurrences of theft cases in the area.
The protest was also joined by DDC members and other PRI members of the area, who appealed the Police authorities to intensify night patrolling in the area and keep vigil on the suspects.
Pertinent to mention here that during the intervening night of December 9 and December 10, thieves struck six shops at Pouni main bazaar and decamped with stolen items. The burgled shops are owned by Ramesh Kumar, Vimal, Rami, Isher Dass, Nanu and Surja.
The demonstration continued for several hours and people dispersed only after DySP Reasi along with other officials personally reached the spot and assured necessary action to check the theft case and arrest of culprits.
