JAMMU, June 21: Up in arms against frequent power cuts, locals of Gadigarh- Ward number 73, led by ex Sarpanch of Upper Gadigarh S Aya Singh, staged a strong protest against the J&K Government and blocked the road.
They raised slogans against Power Development Department and claimed that the area had been without supply of proper electricity from the last three months due to the low capacity transformer in the area.
The people said that transformers were not upgraded one to provide electricity at several places of Gadigarh, Chatha, Bhour Camp, Lower Gadigarh and adjoining areas thus causing unscheduled power cuts for 12 to 14 hours in the areas.
“The transformer had not been upgraded by the PDD despite repeated requests by the area representatives,” they said while taking out a protest march and blocking the traffic at Main Chowk of Gadigarh, Chatha, Karan Bagh and adjoining areas for more than two hours. They were also demanding immediate action against PDD for negligence towards the duty.
“Aya Singh, while addressing the gathering, said crowd urged the Lt Government to take cognizance of the matter and issue necessary instructions to the PDD authorities for immediate action to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the people. “Complacency and casual attitude of the official machinery have to be a thing of the past and responsive and accountable conduct has to be adopted,” he stressed.
Others, who addressed the protesters, included S Avtar Singh – Sarpanch Chatha Farm , Rajinder Singh- Retd Asst Registrar, Jasbir Singh, Devinder Singh, Ranjeet Kour, Ashraf Ali and Bal Krishan.
