Samba, July 22: A team of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) during its drive against the unscrupulous traders in Samba district has recovered Rs 42400.00 as penalty.
During inspection of more than 250 traders of different business establishments, of Karyana shops, Atta Chacki, ration dealers ,ice cream, fertilizers stores, goldsmiths, cement dealers , general stores ,bakery units, poultry sellers, meat sellers, hardware stores, sweet shops, Hotel 17 Miles and industrial units were checked for their compliance with regards to various provisions of J&K Standard of Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011(Amended) and Packages Commodities Rules .
Total 30 challans of traders were made and they were booked for violations of various provisions .Out of these five traders were booked for violation of Packages Commodities Rules, 14 were booked for non production of verification certificate at the time of inspection and 11 were booked for non re-verification of weighing and measuring instruments on the due date.
The team was headed by Ajay Kumar Verma, Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba Mohsin Khateeb Inspector Legal Metrology Samba and other staff of this office conducted extensive checking of various business establishment at National Highway from Jatwal to Bari Brahmna, Raya Morh, Polura, Baderi, Nanke Chack,Ghagwal, Vijaypur, Gurha Slathia , Madoon, Chachwal, Kalwal and adjoining areas.
The department booked Janta Fruit Ice Cream Samba, Hardware Store Vijaypur and Leading Resturant Vijaypur for violation of Packages Commodities rules and other provisions of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011 and on admission of the offence by the traders and with their request and assurance not to repeat the same in future, the challans were compounded and penalty of 30,000 was imposed on three traders. In all 30 challans of the traders were compounded and penalty of Rs 42400.00 was imposed for violation of various provisions of J&K Standard of Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011(Amended) and Packages Commodities Rules.
