LMD lodges FIR against jeweller

JAMMU, Oct 21: Intensifying inspection on the eve of festival season, Department of Legal Metrology conducted inspection for protection of consumer interest in Gandhi Nagar and adjoining areas.
According to Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Controller, Consumer Protection, during inspection by Inspector of jeweller namely M/s Deepak Jeweller at Sanjay Nagar, it was found that the certification of weighing instruments used by the said dealer in selling precious and costly gold was not done.
Doubting about the accuracy of the said instruments, Inspecting Officer demanded for the verification certificate and proper bills of the weighing instruments, which the jeweller failed to produce, he added.
The said jeweller even tried to snatch the official documents from the inspector and forcefully lifted the deceptive machine to unknown place, he said.
He further disclosed that the official duty of the Inspector was also obstructed to the extent that police was called, which recovered the weighing instruments from the said jeweller.
A case in this regard was registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station against the said jeweller for further action under law.
